Katherine Brown
From Johannesburg, South Africa
I'm originally from Johannesburg, South Africa and have just moved to Paris! I did my Bachelor's degree in French literature, Psychology, and International Relations, and my Honours in Justice and Transformation at the University of Cape Town. I'm currently studying my Masters in International Development at Science Po's Paris School of International Affairs, specialising in Global Risks and African studies.
I am not doing specific research or a thesis beyond coursework, as I am more focused on pragmatic and practical solutions to the multifaceted issues we face today. My areas of interest are inequality, global health, food sovereignty and gender. While these interests seem broad, they are all interlinked to my greater passion for justice and transformation through international development.
I gravitate towards this field consciously, through my experience and political convictions, and unconsciously, through my heritage. In the future, my aim is to participate in facilitating development, through thought and actions, in South Africa. I want to do this by engaging with international experts on development while keeping in touch with its grass-roots reality. This experience, of both studying and living in Paris, promises to deliver a fresh perspective and new innovative ideas to my thinking around global issues. I look forward to implementing these new rich ideas during my Paris-based internship next semester and beyond!
