Robin Nxele, PhD
From Mandeni in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa
I grew up in a small town in Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal called Mandeni. I have studied at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape since my undergraduate. I have a BSc in Chemistry and Geology, a BSc honours in Chemistry and a MSc degree in Chemistry. I am currently doing a joint PhD between Rhodes University in South Africa and Chimie Paristech in Paris, France.
My research is based on the development of prostate cancer early detection devices that are cost-effective and easy to handle, in order to bring healthcare to even the most dire communities. It is a drop in the ocean but it is a step closer to improving the medical care system in our society.
My plans for the future are to use my voice, my skills and my talents to contribute to the betterment of medical care in the less advantaged communities and to teach and grow young people in the science field and work towards creating spaces for them to live out their dreams while also contributing to improving their communities wherever they may be based.
I also want to travel the world and make connections with people who share the same vision and are purpose-driven, and to also learn from those who can teach me what I do not already know, which is a lot, to be honest :)
