Thifhe Mulabisana, PhD
From Maebani village in Limpopo, South Africa.
I was born and grew up in Maebani village, outside of Makhado town in Limpopo, South Africa. I am a trained Geophysicist whose interest is earthquake seismology. I obtained my Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science with honours from the University of Witwatersrand in 2011 and 2012, respectively. After which I joined the Council for Geoscience (CGS) in 2012 as an intern while also pursuing Master of Science at the University of Witwatersrand, which I obtained in 2016. I am currently a scientist at the CGS in the Engineering and Geohazard unit and pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) as a joint degree from the University of Strasbourg, France and Nelson Mandela University, South Africa. My PhD research is on the investigation of Active Tectonics, Crustal Deformation and Seismotectonic background for a realistic Seismic Hazard Assessment in southern Africa.
My research interests entail seismotectonics and seismic hazard; I have contributed to international research projects such as the Global Earthquake Modelling (GEM) and IGCP-601. I have also contributed much on national seismic hazard projects (research and commercial). My inspirations include seeing seismotectonics and seismic hazard research in South Africa advance to its best for the safety of South African citizens.
