I've applied and been accepted to study in France. Now what?
Étudiants, Chercheurs

Congratulations!

[PASSPORT]
The next thing to do is make sure that your passport will be valid for at least 1 year after your arrival in France! The passport procedure in SA can take quite long so make sure to do this as soon as possible!

[UNABRIDGED BIRTH CERTIFICATE]
Next, apply for your UNABRIDGED birth certificate! This is a vital document for social security. Without it, your social security will not get finalised and you will not be able to register for housing assistance (CAF).
Once you have your unabridged birth certificate, it needs to be "apostilled" by DIRCO (Department of International Relations and Co-operation).

[ACCOMMODATION]
Whilst these are being processed, it is also time to start looking for accommodation. Start by contacting your university to find out if they have student housing or any agreements with the CROUS in the region, or with any other student housing providers. If they do, ask to make an application through them.

If they do not, do some research regarding the CROUS application dates and procedures so that you can apply as soon as applications open: https://trouverunlogement.lescrous.fr/ It will take a long time to get a response regarding your CROUS application. In the meantime, start searching for private student housing and "colocation"

[VISA]
Visa application - this must be done 2 months before you intend on arriving in France!
From 01 May 2021, these applications will be done on the Etudes en France platform.
What do you need? --> Proof of acceptance in France, Proof of accommodation in France, Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of your stay (minimum 615€ per month). *You will be provided with a complete list of other required documents when you complete your visa application and book your appointment.
